The regular bright setting on the AGS-101 is better than the brightest screen on the AGS-001. Ive already got a regular GBA SP, but Ive always wanted the redesigned one with the new brighter screen (released around the same time as the GB Micro). The old screen has two light settings (off and on) while the newer screen has two setting that are BRIGHT and BRIGHTER. Ive got someone locally that will sell a Gameboy Advance SP. I was not aware of the vast superiority of the newer AGS-101 screen until I gave mine away and bought another one (the NES version). If you say you had an SP with multiple brightness levels, it must have been a modded unit. The AGS-001 can only be on or off, and the AGS-101 is either dim or bright. Thanks to that light design on the SP, you'll get longer battery. The only GBA that has brightness settings is the GB Micro where you hold a shoulder button and press the volume switch to adjust the multiple brightness levels. You'll need to replace the original 001 screen with an IPS or ITA display to achieve modern day standards of brightness.
